You've Got Kayl

I had this post typed up and ready to go this morning. But apparently IT DIDN'T FREAKING SAVE. Ugh. Then my computer was giving me all the troubles at work. Double ugh. If that says anything about how my Monday went...

For some reason, the shorter weeks feel the longest to me. That was definitely the case with the holiday last Monday and given the tragic events that occurred. It's even harder to think I have walked those same Dallas streets and know people who were at the protest that evening. My heart goes out not only to all the loved ones of those who were killed but also to the whole world. Is this violence really what we've come to as a human race? It wrenches at my heart to think so.

Despite how the week dragged on, I felt I had gotten nothing done, which meant it was the perfect time for another Week In Review!

    - Doggy-sat (and still sitting) this little, white thing
    - Signed off on my assigned workpapers at work!
    - Got one decent shot of fireworks on the 4th. See above ^^^
    - As a directionally-challenged individual, who gets lost in her own neighborhood, it's truly an accomplishment when I say I survived driving without Google Maps. Two weeks ago, my Maps just completely stopped working (I swear technology hates me). Honestly, being sans app was refreshing. I feel my sense of direction has improved drastically and I now plan to go app-less for the most part.

    - Over the weekend, I baked Ambitious Kitchen's blueberry scones with strawberries instead. So good that even my dad--a scone hater (I know, such a thing exists?!?)--devoured 2.
    - Completed my online class on Friday, which means I'll (hopefully) have time to catch up on blogging, baking and books! 🎉
    - Took my nail polish off, yet another task that I always procrastinate when it would only take me 5 minutes to do. Siiiiigh
    - Got over halfway through The Boston Girl, a novel following the life of Russian immigrant family who moves to the US in the early 1900s. Until freshman year of college, I didn't particularly enjoy historical fiction but I'm so so glad I gave it a shot!

    - Ran, folded and put my laundry away within 24 hours, tasks normally spread out throughout an entire week. Woo!
    - Attended another cooking class but this time for Korean dishes. Learned a) the differences between Chinese, Japanese and Korean chopsticks, b) about kimchi fermentation and c) that sweet Korean pancakes taste like cinnamon rolls. Uhhh, yes please?!!?
    - I started volunteering at about a month ago at a local animal shelter and went again yesterday. AKA I played with dogs for 2 hours. 🐶  It's so bittersweet to watch them get adopted. 😩
    - After spending over an hour watching Ham4Ham videos, I eventually wrote this post!

    Questions:
Have you ever made Korean food from scratch?
Are there any book genres that you don't like to read?
Do you ever feel you rely on technology too much?

    Hello Dallas
Another week down, another Week In Review c/o Meghan! I decided it might be different to list my accomplishments day-by-day. WIR reminds me that I have achieved more than I think I did within 7 days. Maybe somedays will be more "productive" than others and that's okay.

    Monday
    - Managed to get up at 6:30 to transfer my mama from an urgent care facility to a legit hospital after getting only 4 hours of sleep. While we were spending our long weekend in Austin, she suffered from a severe bout of vertigo Sunday morning and was bedridden the entire day. Long story short, luckily, she was able to go home Monday afternoon. She is back to 100% now!
    - Barely napped on the drive back to keep my aunt company

    Tuesday

    - Survived driving in the pouring rain. If you haven't heard about the weather here recently, it's been puh-retty crazy. My sister & I had to pull over at a gas station to wait it out after I picked up her up from work that afternoon. This week is looking up though--sunshine & 90s--what summer should look like.
    - Watched the latest Bachelorette episode with my family! Definitely hoping my Texas boys win Jojo's heart.
    - Sucked it up and made dreading to do and called the firms to decline their internship offers. Disappointing people is one of my biggest fears so this was undoubtedly a challenge for me to do.
    Wednesday
    - Was driver again for my sister. Yay for better navigation skills and becoming less directionally challenged!
    - Whipped up my first batch of energy bites. There was an unfortunate lack of cashews in our household so I used a mix of cashews, pecans, & almonds. Why have I never done this before?!! What was I thinking!? They were ridiculously easy. MAGICAL.
    Thursday
    - Caught up on all the episodes of unREAL; essentially it's a series about the BTS of a series called Everlasting based off of The Bachelor series.... if that makes any sense whatsoever. SHOWCEPTION!
    - Spent an hour volunteering AKA playing with doggies at an animal shelter! They were so adorable.

    Friday
    - Made it to my appointment with the dietician only 5 minutes after our scheduled time despite having troubles with parking and my running late.
    - After intense internal debating, some random number generating, a bajillion phone calls and being on the verge of tears, I finally made up my mind on which company to intern with in the Spring.
    - Though it may not look like it, I did finally get my hair cut. Kinda annoyed with the length: still longer than I wanted it to be even if I asked for 2 inches off. Blergh. 😕
    Saturday
    - A couple of weeks ago I received the OK to start exercising again (WOO!). I attended a free yoga class held on each first Saturday of the month. Sadly, they were forced to move it indoors cuz of the rain but it was fulfilling nonetheless. The instructor ended our session with a quote that I needed to hear and felt all y'all out there do too:

“If your compassion does not include yourself it is incomplete.”
    - Following ^^^, I took myself out on a late breakfast date. Sat at Modern Market and enjoyed their rocket & egg sandwich with basil aioli while finishing up The Crown. An easy read, a cross between The Bachelor and YA distopian novels. Frustratingly, she didn't pick the guy I was rooting for! Side note: Whoa, my week was Bachelor filled!

    - Spent some of the afternoon listening to another Ladies Who Lunch podcast while simultaneously coloring. Obviously, this was a very self-love filled day!
    - Got a headstart on my online summer class (that officially begins today) by reading the first chapter of the required text. Yup, I'm definitely a shameless nerd. Since it's only a month long course, I know it's going to breeze by and the work would start to pile up.
    - Had a much needed semi-spontaneous phone call with my friend. Two hour conversations like this slightly alleviates the 8,301 mile distance between us.

    Sunday
    - Last week I attended a German cooking class where we made pretzels and braised red cabbage. Recreated it for lunch to serve alongside bratwurst. I am the queen of pretzel shaping!
    - Unloaded the dishwasher, surprisingly one the chores I actually don't mind doing.
    - Went on a family run for Braum's ice cream. I chose a scoop of the homestyle strawberry with no regrets! A perfect end to the week. 🍦

    Questions:
How did you treat yourself to some self-love this week?
Have you tried German food before?
What's your favorite chore to do?

Good morning friends! I have a big decision to make today and I'm torn between my head and heart. I hate decisions. And choices and disappointing people. Argh!!! The advice I hear is to "go with your gut." But I've never really done that before. Is that even a thing?!? How does one do that?!!

Anywho, since I've been quiet on the blog recently, I really just wanted to quickly share some links before the week ends. Oh, and happy Friday!!!

    1. Some stuff on dating/relationships: Can we change our type? I feel I relate to the Builders or Negotiators the most but I don't know. The biggest takeaway personally is that I need to figure out who I am before I can I figure out who my type actually is...

Ommm, words to ponder: The more you know yourself, the more likely to know what you want and what you deserve.

    2. Another link to fuel my never-ending Hamilton obsession: I must admit I tried the moves and let's just say there's a reason I'm studying accounting. Fun fact: I did take a few summer breakdancing workshops back in the day though!

    3. Just when you think Kristen Bell couldn't get any cooler... I love how celebrities are getting the mental health conversation going! We really need to erase the stigma around mental health and emphasize its importance. Mental illnesses should be treated like any physical illness. There is no shame in having one. It is not a sign of weakness.

    4. I know I've shared The Fuck It Diet's posts before but if you still haven't checked out Caroline Dooner's site, DO IT (OR ELSE). Seriously, the girl is not just hilarious but she makes a point. And her recent one about what balance is was made for me. I think part of my ED stemmed from this notion that I was "balanced," that I was eating in "moderation," when really all I was doing was restricting myself. Even now, I can't have the typical balance because I am still healing, which I struggle to remember. It is much easier typed than done. I want to be able to eat intuitively but I know I am not at a place where I can listen to my body at that level yet. Definitely sucks butt.

    Questions:
Do you listen to your heart or your head?
Do you have any experience with breakdancing?
What's your favorite Kristen Bell movie/show? (Veronica Mars for me!)
